Horse Guru

October 26, 2017
Cathy was the winner of the onsite session I offered at the Fall Stony Plain Tack Sale. When I showed up for their session, I was struck by how kind and caring Jessie, her appaloosa gelding was. He really loved her as he kept trying to give her a love nip like a horse would give to another horse. As she reprimanded him, she turned to me and asked if he minded that she do that. His response? It’s good to keep me in line he said. Do what you have to do was his nonchalant attitude.
Even though Jessie was fourteen years old, he said he felt like he was six. He appeared to have a young mind. He really felt all lovey dovey when he was with Cathy. Jessie just loved to touch Cathy and share her space.
Cathy asked what he thought of some of the events that she took him in. Jessie said he didn’t really care as long as he was with her. One thing he made clear though was that the tail extension she had for him when she showed him was “gay,” that was his word for it. Be proud of my heritage he added. I am an appaloosa. My tail is small and not full. This is characteristic of my breed he offered. Be proud of who you ride when you are on me and feel it he stated firmly. I could feel the tingle of awareness or chicken skin, as I like to call it, as he offered these words to Cathy.
Jessie explained that he liked to take care of Cathy. He wanted her to enjoy each day and to be present in each day, not living in the past and the future. This horse was really amazing. It was like he was her guru. Cathy shared that she has not had an easy life. This gelding of hers was totally aware of that. He said she could trust him to take care of her. Her eyes filed with tears more than once during this session. Cathy had participated in many horse shows and most often won, but she explained she felt different now. At this time in her life while she enjoyed taking her gelding to shows, she did not feel compelled to win. She just wanted to enjoy her time with her beautiful appaloosa and he felt the same way.
Cathy asked if Jessie was cold backed. Jessie agreed and suggested that she warm him up with a blanket before she rides him, like tack him up and blanket him for awhile before she gets on his back. Back on Track products popped into my mind then, no doubt prodded by Spirit to suggest use of this for her gelding. Jessie explained that his hips felt stiff and he felt some help in this area would be very welcome. We discussed the use of Back on Track products to help old stuck energy get lighter and looser.
By the end of the session Cathy understood Jessie and where he was coming from when he acted a certain way. He loved being able to talk to her. When the session ended he touched me with his muzzle and thanked me for being there to help Cathy talk with him. What a beautiful session. It is always a pleasure for me to be able to help horse connect with his rider.
