Same Wavelength

At times I kind of wonder what is going on. I mean, really, when I am finally in the mood to ride all sorts of things happen. Spirit tells me it will happen in time. But really my life and the weather tend to get in my way.
I used to love to ride horses. All I could think of is riding, riding, riding. I rode on a drill team, rode endurance, and rode a gaited horse while I lived in Brazil, rode horses in the mountains every summer when I came home from overseas for my summer vacation. But now all things have changed. I do not ride like I used to. Life got in the way.
Years ago I wrote a book called Horse Files, which I have yet to edit before I publish it. Likely it will be an e-book. I haven’t looked at for a couple of years but yesterday when I was unpacking yet another box, there it was. I read a few pages and in there I relived my love for riding and for playing with horses. And lately I have had the urge to just go riding.
Sunday of this past weekend was glorious. It was warm, sunny and Star my Canadian gelding even asked me, “Are you going to ride me today?” I replied, “It would be a honor.” I mentally made the plan to ride him that night.
As my luck would have it, my son stepped on a nail and off we went to get a tetanus shot at the hospital. The two hours we spent there were not a total waste of time. We met a young woman from Australia and had a wonderful time chatting. It was her dream to ride a horse in the mountains. As she told me this, I willed it to happen for her. There is NOTHING like riding a horse in the mountains. Nothing. I shared with her that the last time I rode a horse in the mountains my ten-year-old son was in my belly. It was that long ago! Hopefully it will not take me that long to get back on my horses.
Star is waiting for me and he is quite the horse to ride. As Roland Sawatzky, the man who trained him two years ago said, “He’s got more whoa than go.” And for any of you who like to ride with a light hand and heel, Star would be just what you would want. It’s not for everyone but for those who love a horse that got lots of heart and spirit, but for me I figure he’s the one.
