Bath Time!

July 16, 2014
Last night one of the kittens, Stripe, a beautiful grey tabby, from the feral momma cats was hanging around me while I was washing up in the bathroom so I did what I normally do for this kitten, I gave it a bath. Stripe asks me several times a day to wipe its eyes and I do even though she protests each time I do it. She always asks to have her face cleaned. I wiped it down with a wet washcloth. It's just as good as giving her a bath. When I was almost done I looked down at the floor by the bathroom door and another kitten had appeared. Apparently it was waiting for its turn.
It’s been really hot in our house lately due to the extreme heat and lack of air conditioning. It’s gotta be really hot for me to even think about an air conditioning unit for my Albertan house. We don’t really get enough heat to need one.
So I grabbed that little black kitten and gave it a washcloth bath. When I was almost done, 2 more kittens appeared. They waited for their turn. Finally the last of the five kittens appeared. Peanut waited for her turn. Like most of the kittens she struggled with the wet cloth a bit but settled enough for me to wipe her down. “That feels good,” I heard her say when the wet cloth ran over her back. When I was done I set her down on the floor. Instead of scurrying off she just lay down at the edge of the bath mat. She said, “I feel better.” I knew that a wipe down for each kitten would make them feel just as good as we humans do after our shower or bathing ritual.
I’ve never bathed a cat before. These guys got a bath within the first couple of weeks we started playing with them. My son the cat lover insisted we buy a book called Cats at Coles Bookstore. We read it together and learned a lot about cats. I’m not specifically a cat lover. If you must call me something you’d probably call me an animal lover. There is nothing better in life than hearing a thank you whispered by an animal. And of course there is nothing better than the soft nuzzle of a horse’s muzzle, a dog’s paw placed on your leg or a kitten falling asleep in your arms.
These kittens love how they feel after they have their bath. They settled down so nicely which was a relief because the night before they partied kitten style until the wee hours of the morning. Our entire house hold slept deeply. Thank goodness for water! And kittens of course!
*Later, after I posted this blog, I found out that she was a he. Stripe is a boy!!!
