A Good Run!

December 23, 2014
A while back I was fortunate enough to help out at a barrel racing jackpot at the 3 Lazy D Arena (you can find their page on Facebook). While I am not a barrel racing rider I do enjoy watching those horses run.
This jackpot featured two runs per rider. I stood on the judges’ platform so I could have a better look at what was going on.
The first run was great to watch but the second one was even better. One horse and rider team were so enthusiastic that on their second run they shaved eight seconds off of their first time! Incredible! I loved to watch her horse run after the final barrel. Her horse tucked his legs up under his bum and flew to the finish. The joy in the run of that horse reminded of dogs and how they run when they are really, really happy!
Not all riders were as successful but everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. It made me want to try it. I told my sister-in-law who was running the jackpot. She replied that her horse would probably let me try barrel racing on him. Immediately I heard her horse say NO! So much for that idea. Maybe one day I will try it with a willing horse that shows up to show me how to do it. Until then, I will remain a viewer.
